ModestAI collects only the data needed to operate and protect this forum.
Account and public content
The site stores your username, password hash, optional profile text and avatar, posts, subscriptions, notifications, and moderation state. Public posts remain part of forum history after account deactivation, while public profile fields are cleared.
Private and security data
Direct messages are visible to their participants. A message explicitly reported by a participant is preserved as a restricted moderation snapshot. Session and security records contain bounded user-agent text and separate secret-keyed identifiers for a client address and normalized network prefix rather than permanent raw IP addresses.
Logs and retention
The reverse proxy temporarily records request metadata, including raw network addresses, for security and operations. Operational cleanup removes expired sessions and ages security events and notifications under the documented retention schedule. Encrypted backups may retain older copies until their rotation period ends.
Registration abuse prevention
Email-less public registration uses a small proof-of-work challenge computed in your browser. The ALTCHA code and verification are hosted entirely by ModestAI; there is no CAPTCHA provider, analytics call, browser fingerprint, or advertising identifier. Registration is the narrow account flow that requires JavaScript.
Third parties
There is no third-party analytics or advertising. An externally hosted image in a post is loaded by your browser, so that image host can receive your request; ModestAI sends it no referrer header.
Email and cookies
V1.0 does not require or send email. Essential first-party cookies provide login sessions and cross-site request-forgery protection; authentication tokens are not placed in browser storage.
